This book grew out of the need to help classically-trained flutists understand jazz and how to improvise. Classically-trained flutists are a very highly trained group of musicians. Usually, they have one to three degrees in music and can perform virtually anything that has been written down on music. But it is very possible that because of scheduling and other time constraints, they never had the opportunity to take an improvisation course nor ever played in the school(s) jazz program.
This book is designed for the flutist that wants to do some jazz playing and wants guidance on how they could develop their improvisational skills but has no idea where to begin. This book will take you, step by step, through the process of learning how to improvise with some of the best and current techniques and tools out there today. By the time the flutist has completed this book they will be able to perform in a jazz setting without any fear!
This book was written by a flutist for flutists. Take the tour!
